Veneers, to cover imperfections
Dental veneers are thin, custom-made shells that cover the front surface of a tooth to improve its appearance. Made from tooth-coloured materials, they can improve the colour of teeth that have been worn down or stained, or change the shape or size of a tooth.
Two kinds
Porcelain veneers
More durable and better at resisting stains. The material also gives a very natural-looking result.
Composite resin veneers
Applied directly to the teeth rather than made in a laboratory. Shorter lifespan, and less expensive.
Worth asking about if
- Your teeth are stained or discoloured
- Your teeth are crooked or misshapen
- You have spaces between your teeth
- Your teeth are broken or chipped
How it is done
Porcelain veneers take two visits. At the first, the tooth surface is prepared and an impression is taken for the laboratory, with temporary veneers fitted in the meantime. At the second, the finished veneers are checked for fit and colour and bonded permanently into place.
